Two of our female experts\u2014Theresa, a backend software developer, and Christin, a software engineer in office management\u2014share their insights. They talk about how they got into IT, what inspires them about their work, and what projects they\u2019re currently working on. They also speak openly about challenges and role models, and offer valuable tips for anyone looking to break into the tech world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Christin: I'm drawn to the complexity of technical tasks\u2014I love constantly being faced with new challenges.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Theresa: Although I was already passionate about technology as a child and in school, I didn\u2019t initially plan to enter the IT industry after graduating from high school. I actually chose my bachelor\u2019s degree program with the intention of pursuing media technology, but I was confronted with programming relatively quickly and on a large scale, and I grew to enjoy it more and more as my studies progressed. During my master\u2019s program, I specialized in it even further. Ultimately, after graduating, I started working as a software developer.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n What do you find particularly exciting about your work in engineering?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Christin: The variety of challenges and the opportunity to develop creative solutions motivate me every single day.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Theresa: That feeling when a tricky challenge finally works out the way you imagined\u2014it makes you quickly forget how much you were struggling with it before.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n What are you currently working on? Can you give us a brief overview of your responsibilities?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Christin: I'm currently looking for a suitable alternative to our existing system, while also working on maintaining and continuously improving the current solution to ensure our internal processes remain efficient and future-proof.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Theresa: I currently work primarily as a backend developer, but I also take on frontend or ops tasks from time to time.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Is there a project or challenge you're particularly proud of?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Theresa: Not exactly. Looking back, I think I'm most proud of my entire career. You often forget how far you've actually come. That's when it helps to look back and realize everything you've already accomplished and learned.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n As a woman, what is your experience of the work environment in the tech industry\u2014and do you still see any particular challenges for women there?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Christin: I feel very comfortable and valued in my work environment\u2014we work together openly and respectfully.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Theresa: I can't say how it feels for men in return\u2014I naturally don't have a direct point of comparison. But in everyday life, we all face the same challenges: writing code, fixing bugs, and discussing solutions. Technology doesn't discriminate\u2014but people sometimes do.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Do you have any role models or people who have inspired and motivated you along the way?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Christin: I'm inspired by people who blaze new trails with passion and perseverance\u2014regardless of their background.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Theresa: Not exactly\u2014it\u2019s a bit of a shame that the well-known stories and figures in the tech industry are almost exclusively men. You have to look a little harder to find women, but there are some fascinating career paths there, too.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n What advice would you give to young women who are considering a career in engineering or IT?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Christin: Have the courage to stay curious, contribute your own ideas, and confidently forge your own path\u2014the industry needs you!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Theresa: When things get tough, question the system\u2014not yourself.<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Am 23.
