Our Work
For Energy2market (e2m), one of Europe’s leading renewable energy traders, we redesigned the customer portal for its virtual power plant. The portal combines user-friendly design with complex backend processes, enabling both generators and consumers to easily manage their systems and enter generation forecasts. Since February 2020, we have been continuously providing project management, software development, and software process consulting services for e2m.

Our Client: Who is Energy2market (e2m)?
Energy2market, headquartered in Leipzig, is one of the largest aggregators and energy traders for Renewable Energy in Europe. Through its own virtual Kraftwerk aggregates, monitors, and controls more than 5,500 decentralized generation facilities via e2m from renewable energy producers, energy storage systems, and consumers, and connects them to the electricity trading markets. Since 2019, e2m has been part of the Local Energy Management (LEM) renewable energy division of the EDF energy group.

Key Areas of Cooperation
The goal was to create an intuitive portal tailored to the diverse customer base in the energy sector—ranging from farms with small biogas plants to municipal utilities that operate multiple facilities using different technologies. The project needed to accommodate the vast number of possible combinations of products, services, and plant technologies—such as solar, wind, and biogas—while also delivering a consistently user-centered experience.

Results of the Collaboration
The first usability tests took place after just a few weeks, yielding valuable insights for further development. Numerous features designed to improve user-friendliness have been implemented since then. Today, the new portal enables customers to easily manage their systems and enter generation forecasts on various devices—and is continuously being further developed by a full IT Sonix team consisting of front-end, back-end, and UX experts.
